First of all, this film involves much more than sleeping. In fact, this film premiered the same year as Walt Disney’s Sleeping Beauty. Despite being a romantic comedy, Pillow Talk broke new ground as to how Hollywood depicted sexuality. Even though this film is risqué to a certain extent, it is way tamer than the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy.
A Toast!
Because the screenplay broke new ground, Pillow Talk definitely deserved an Academy Award for its original plot. Furthermore, this film features the only Oscar-nominated performance from Doris Day. Additionally, the film also showcases the acting talents of Thelma Ritter and Tony Randall. Finally, the production design and lush music score make this film one of the best romantic comedies ever.
