Mouse (2026) Movie Drinking Game

Take a Drink: for each new crime

Take a Drink: for quasi-legal cons

Take a Drink: for each letter

Do a Shot: for masks

By: Henry J. Fromage (Two Beers) –

Depicting the lives of con artists and those living on the margins of society has always been a fruitful topic for Independent filmmakers.

Mouse follows Denny, one such man who takes care of himself and his aging Japanese-American mother by stealing bikes and running small cons.  When he meets Tess through a shady-sounding pen-pal service, he invites another kind of desperate criminal into his life.

A Toast

The film starts with a voiceover how-to on bike thievery and getting away with it, then other petty crimes like stealing from your employer or their customers.  Denny’s clearly been at this a long time, and knows the ins and outs of a con, as well as just what level of crime he can sustain himself and his mother on without crossing over into far riskier territory.  It’s a perhaps necessarily lonely existence.

He’s not the only one with cons to explain, it turns out- when he connects with a pen pal service that he probably should have been able to suss out himself is also a scam, we see the couple who are running it’s backstory and modus operandi.  As they circle each other and make choices that both complicate their lies and bring them closer together, you wonder how this can possibly all shake out.

Badly, it sure appears, especially when Denny crosses the line into harder crime in order to impress this lady he’s been corresponding with.

Beer Two

Turn up the brightness on your TV- the cinematography is often quite, sometimes too dark here.  It fits the murky lifestyles of these characters, but is sometimes literally difficult to perceive.

Verdict

Mouse is a well-acted story of living a life of crime, the desperate loneliness that can entail, and the lengths some will go for connection.
