David Thompson’s five song EP demonstrates the sound of Philadelphia lives on in the modern world. But don’t get us wrong, there’s nothing R&B or celebratory in Thompson’s music. That doesn’t mean it’s bleak, but there is a mix of dark and light in the music being presented.
Although “Time” seems like a tune that’s a blast from the past, it’s timely as it captures today’s world. The synthesizers will take you back, but the lyrics will quickly remind you of the state of the world we’re currently living in. It’s followed by the title track “The Wall”, which has a good optimistic feel; a complete reverse from the opening. Thompson keeps the music fresh and raw lyrics coming at you. “Clair” goes even further back than “Time” with it’s really old school influence throughout the track.
Give it a listen, and have a beer or two, or three at the most.
