As the world transitioned from the “Happy Days” of the 1950s to the psychedelic 1960s, films started becoming more risqué. Society changed dramatically during this era as well, and films have reflected the time period in which they had been created. One of the most compelling films released during this radical time period is In Cold Blood.
A Toast!
Nominated for four Academy Awards, this is a brilliant adaptation of Truman Capote’s chilling classic. The cinematography is amazing, the score adds drama to this dark story, and Richard Brooks really was the ideal director to helm this project, especially since he brought Sinclair Lewis’s Elmer Gantry to the screen in 1960.

Verdict
Sometimes murder cases remain stone cold and unsolved, but In Cold Blood honors the lives of the murdered rural family while also reminding viewers about their own mortality.
