The American Civil War was a rough historical era. Nevertheless, that terrible time period formed the basis for some of the best films ever. In fact, many consider Gone with the Wind as the greatest movie of all time. Interestingly, other films explore world history instead of American history. A great example is Juarez.

Nominated for two Academy Awards, this film combines different historical events to form a compelling drama. Furthermore, Paul Muni and Bette Davis excel in their leading roles. Additionally, Brian Aherne earned an Oscar nomination for his supporting role as “Maximilian I of Mexico.” Finally, the cinematography makes this film incredibly epic.

Ultimately, this is an enduring classic that portrays Napoleon III instead of Napoleon Bonaparte!
