Franco Zeffirelli was one of the best directors of all time. His passion for Shakespeare reveals his skill as a filmmaker. Besides his adaptations of Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet, Zeffirelli himself had a personal favorite of his own work. That film is Otello, based on both the Shakespeare play and the opera by Verdi.

First of all, the costumes in this film are gorgeous! In fact, this film is incredibly beautiful. The music is sumptuous, and the story of Othello comes brilliantly to life on-screen. This film is definitely a crowning achievement from one of the best directors who has ever lived.
