A “cougar” is much more than a feline. That is because it is a vulgar slang term for an older woman who feels attraction to a hot younger man. In fact, some women admired Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner at the height of Twilight‘s popularity. Nevertheless, the notion of an age difference could elicit an intense love affair between two people. One of the most (in)famous films to display this in cinematic history is The Graduate.

Despite the highly unusual plot, this film has stood the test of time as a groundbreaking romantic dramedy. In fact, Dustin Hoffman, Anne Bancroft, and Katharine Ross all received recognition at the Golden Globe Awards and at the Oscars after the initial release of this film. Furthermore, the film tackles mature themes in a tasteful and insightful way, which helped the film earn a “PG” rating. Finally, this could really be the best film from Mike Nichols has ever directed since he earned an Oscar for directing this enduring classic.
