The Meta4 Revue is a New York-based band (originally from Toronto), and their latest album Magnum Opera (out now on Spotify) is a labor of love that is comprised of 7 soulful tracks that were put together with oodles of soul, passion, & a whole lotta jazz during this pandemic.
The genre can only be best described by the band themselves who have coined the term ‘Soundtrack Blues’ for their music, which is influenced by the music of the Bond movies as well as classics such as American Beauty, & legends like Ray Charles, but is simultaneously brimming with originality.
Tracks like “Chocolat” are sure to make you drool every time you savor it and the tantalizing visuals of the music video for the same which has just been released on YouTube are sure to leave you craving for that sweet chocolate! I also found myself enthralled by the way “Crawling Up Your Spine” snuck up on me with its slow build-up leading to a headbanging chorus, & it sure will creep up your spine & remain embedded in your brain long after you’ve finished chilling out to this album & all 7 heavenly tracks.
Of course, the crown jewel would have to be “Maltese”, which is quite the tease (pardon the pun) with its sultry and multi-layered vocals & its delectably gorgeous, hypnotic synth beats. I wouldn’t be surprised if it ended up becoming the opening theme for a Bond movie someday!
Magnum Opera sets the tone for elegance and for when you want to feel luxurious. Dinner parties and romantic dinners are a great call to action for this in relation to what this site reflects & while the rating system of this site relies on beers, I would prefer to raise a glass of martini (shaken, not stirred) to this album, in keeping with its 007-esque influence.
