First of all, coming-of-age happens to only some people. That is because people do age, but growing up is actually optional. Nevertheless, the idea of maturing as time passes is a very common narrative in literature and film. In fact, one of the best films that demonstrates that idea is The Reivers.

Nominated for two Academy Awards, this is a compelling adaptation of the novel by William Faulkner. Furthermore, this film features Rupert Crosse as the first African-American nominated for a supporting role at the Oscars. Additionally, Mitch Vogel and Steve McQueen both received recognition at the Golden Globes for their performances as well.
Verdict
Finally, this film is an amazing example of what it means to transition into adulthood.
