Neil Simon remains one of the most acclaimed dramatists in modern theater. His stage plays have formed the basis for some of the best films ever made. It is no surprise that he would adapt his own plays given his writing talents. One of his best plays had its title changed for the film version. That is because The Gingerbread Lady had the revised title of Only When I Laugh, released in 1981.

This film features incredible acting! Marsha Mason, James Coco, and Joan Hackett all deserved their Academy Award nominations for this film.
Beer Two
Ironically, James Coco received a Razzie nomination for the same performance. The title song is also a bit painful to listen to as well.
Verdict
People usually laugh when something is funny, but this film reveals how not everything is funny even if people were to laugh.
