Elizabeth Taylor is a starlet in her own right. Ever since her childhood, her enduring presence added beauty to the screen. However, just because she is a Hollywood legend does not mean that she is necessarily the lead in every film she had appeared in. That was the case for A Place in the Sun.

Based on An American Tragedy by Theodore Dreiser, this film version honors the legacy of that novel and the stage play by Patrick Kearney. In fact, the screenplay by Michael Wilson and Harry Brown won the Oscar after the initial release of this film! The timeless story unfolds beautifully via brilliant cinematography, stylish costumes, a sumptuous score, and precise editing. This film is one of the best from director George Stevens!
Verdict
Cleopatra (oops, I meant Elizabeth Taylor) passed away in 2011, but hopefully she has “A Place in the Sun” (pun intended).
