A Toast
I think it’s safe to say that the time traveling rockstar duo whom I grew up adoring haven’t changed in the slightest & this franchise still stands the test of time in all its headbanging, mind-boggling, ever triumphant, most excellent glory!
Bill & Ted Face the Music brings together our lead couple Bill S. Preston, Esquire (Alex Winter) & Ted Logan (Keanu Reeves), their better halves, the medieval princesses Liz & Joanna, their daughters Thea & Billie (who legit take after their dads), & a bunch of other real, unreal, & even surreal characters as they literally band together to save time & space from collapsing, and, of course, to face up to their own shortcomings as fathers, husbands, sons, & all that jazz.
Of course, if I went into any further details, I would only be spoiling the fun, so I’ll totes draw a double bar-line at that.
The music, the psychedelic special effects, & of course, the performances are the backbone of this sci-fi comedy & Keanu Reeves & Alex Winter totally seem at ease playing the same jive-cats they played 20 or so years ago & it’s a riot to watch them play these goofy guys again, complete with cheesy cornball line delivery & mannerisms. Jayma Mays & Erinn Hayes lend apt support as their wives, and Samara Weaving & Bridgette Lundy-Paine are absolutely delightful as Thea & Billie (I sure wouldn’t mind a spin-off with just these two so they can carry on the Preston-Logan legacy!). As always, William Sadler doesn’t disappoint as their good ol’ pal Death, and new additions Kristen Schaal, Anthony Carrigan, Beck Bennett, Kid Cudi, & others only add to the fun, flavor, & berserkness of the proceedings.
Verdict
This quarantine, if you’re feeling low, then totally get high on this fun package. Yes, even if you haven’t watched the original ones which came before it. <Insert funky electric guitar riff here>
