During the early stages of Hollywood history, Westerns filled theater screens with excitement. Perhaps the most iconic Western star is John Wayne. Nevertheless, Westerns sometimes involve more than just cowboys and gun-shooting. In fact, a great example is Broken Lance.

First of all, this film features one of the best Oscar-winning screenplays ever written. Furthermore, Katy Jurado earned her only Oscar nomination for her supporting role as Señora Devereaux. Finally, this film is an epic saga as rich and as expansive as the ranch that the Devereaux family owns.
