Ever since the inception of cinema, published works ranging from short stories to novels have formed the basis of some of the best films ever made. Contemporary literature has also formed the basis of some of the greatest films in the modern era. One of the best examples of a twenty-first century film adaptation of a novel published in modern times is Chocolat.
A Toast!
The recipient of five Academy Award nominations, including “Best Picture,” this is a truly remarkable and romantic film! Juliette Binoche offers one of her best performances as Vianne, a single mother who opens a chocolate shop in a rural part of France that rocks a provincial town. This film is amazing given its brilliant adaptation of Joanne Harris’s celebrated novel, and the score is sumptuous.
Verdict
Food is one of the greatest pleasures in life, and Chocolat is a film as sweet as it sounds, just as enjoyable as ambrosia.
