This film is a very gripping drama. Gary Cooper is phenomenal as Jess Birdwell. Anthony Perkins deserved his Oscar nomination for playing Josh Birdwell. The title song, “Friendly Persuasion (Thee I Love)” is a testament to the enduring power of the human spirit. This is truly a masterpiece from William Wyler!
Verdict
Jane Austen’s Persuasion is a timeless love story, but Friendly Persuasion is a wartime classic.
