One of Katharine Hepburn’s most famous films is The Philadelphia Story. Because it is such a seminal classic, only bold filmmakers would attempt to remake such a legendary film. Some remakes do flop, but others soar high. That is the case for the 1956 musical remake High Society.
A Toast!
Nominated for two Academy Awards, this film is a delightful romantic comedy! Furthermore, the film features a lush score from Johnny Green and Saul Chaplin. Additionally, Cole Porter received an Oscar nomination for the original song, “True Love.” Finally, this lavish musical is a beautiful reinvention of The Philadelphia Story.
Verdict
Please do not confuse this film with both the 1955 film of the same name, along with Woody Allen’s Café Society (2016)!
