Off of his inspiring, sitar-infused album Wayfinder, world music maestro Mohamed Assani introduces us to “Lullaby For Guli”. This inspiring track beautifully delivers the brilliance of Assani’s sitar playing, and his devotion to storytelling through music. As you might expect, the track is dedicated to our first exposure to music, the lullaby, but the track is more than that. The power in the music will bring back fond memories.
“Lullaby For Guli” begins very somberly. The track is in tribute to all mothers whose lullaby’s are often a child’s first experience of music. Assani delivers a track full of passion, very much rooted in his South Asian heritage, with his sitar standing in the forefront of this new age-sounding single. In the middle, the track explodes to feature loud synthesizer, almost rock guitar riffs, then gently returns to normal, with Assani demonstrating his expertise on sitar.
It’s almost impossible to not feel the range of emotions you’ll experience after listening to “Lullaby For Guli”. Assani achieves this in this sitar anthem for all mothers.
