The Roman emperor Nero remains a notorious ruler. His infamy corrupted the majestic Roman Empire. Nevertheless, his story is very compelling despite its atrocity, which is part of the reason why his story became immortalized in literature, history, and film. Henryk Sienkiewicz’s novel Quo Vadis formed the basis for the epic film released in 1951.
A Toast!
Nominated for eight Academy Awards, this is indeed a historical epic. Because of its epic scope, the film itself is a visual marvel. Furthermore, Leo Genn and Peter Ustinov definitely deserved their nominations for their supporting roles. This is a major achievement for the legendary film directors Mervyn LeRoy and Anthony Mann.
Verdict
Nero might be infamous, but Quo Vadis is definitely famous!
