Dorothy Gale is famous for saying, “There’s no place like home.” Even after children become adults, and go off to see the world, home can really be where the heart is. That is one of the compelling ideas in the celebrated novel and film The Cider House Rules.

The recipient of two Academy Awards, this film is a powerfully romantic drama. Sir Michael Caine definitely deserved his Oscar for his supporting role as Dr. Wilbur Larch. John Irving also won the Academy Award for adapting his own bestselling novel. The film also features the talents of Tobey Maguire (a.k.a. Spider-Man), Charlize Theron (who has been recently nominated for an Oscar for the 2019 film Bombshell), and even Jane Alexander from Kramer vs. Kramer fame.
