Flying in an airplane can terrify people. Things are even more chaotic when planes malfunction during flight. Nevertheless, films involving tense situations are undeniably dramatic. That is the case when Ernest K. Gann adapted his own novel The High and the Mighty for the silver screen.
A Toast!
First of all, this film features incredible acting. In fact, Jan Sterling won a Golden Globe for her supporting role in this film, and even competed against her co-star, Claire Trevor, that same year at the Oscars. Furthermore, this film features a compelling score, and the film editing is spot on. Besides the sumptuous music, the title song is also a classic in its own right. This film is definitely an achievement from director William A. Wellman.
