First of all, this film won three Academy Awards, including “Best Picture.” In fact, the film features beautiful production design, a sumptuous score, and a screenplay that honors Zola himself. Additionally, Paul Muni delivers a riveting performance. Finally, this film is a monumental achievement that William Dieterle directed.
