Historical dramas are a popular film genre. Furthermore, Hollywood has an interesting love affair with European royalty. Even Cate Blanchett earned critical acclaim for portraying Queen Elizabeth I. Not all period dramas involve just women, and one great example is The Madness of King George.
A Toast!
This film is the direct result of a brilliant stage play and screenplay that Alan Bennett had wrote. Not only is the screenplay sumptuous, but this film also won an Oscar for its regal production design. Finally, this film features compelling performances from Helen Mirren as Queen Charlotte, and Nigel Hawthorne as the mad King George.
