As a filmmaker, Orson Welles is within a league of his own. In fact, many consider Citizen Kane as the best film ever made. Additionally, Orson Welles also directed amazing film adaptations. For example, The Magnificent Ambersons brings the literary classic to life on screen.

Nominated for four Academy Awards, this is a compelling cinematic masterpiece. Furthermore, the production design and cinematography make the original novel by Booth Tarkington have a unique sense of beauty. Aside from the look of the film, Agnes Moorehead earned an Oscar nomination for her supporting role as “Fanny Minafer.” Finally, this film definitely deserved its nomination as a “Best Picture” contender for 1942.

Ultimately, The Magnificent Ambersons is a magnificent picture, indeed (pun intended)!
