Pirates hold a unique place in pop culture. For example, Johnny Depp played Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Additionally, the Treasure Island Hotel in Las Vegas had a nightly pirate show that eventually changed to “The Sirens of T.I. (Treasure Island.” Interestingly, sometimes pirate tales are much more than adventure stories. That is because The Pirate is a very unique musical.
A Toast!
Starring Gene Kelly and Judy Garland, this film is one-of-a-kind. Since it is a musical, it obviously received an Oscar nomination for the score that Lennie Hayton composed. Additionally, this film features nine songs from Cole Porter. Finally, this film redefines the romantic musical comedy.
Verdict
Ultimately, this musical is much more than just a whale of a tale!
