After the establishment of civilization, human beings practiced domestication. People actually have an interesting love affair with their pets. Sometimes parental figures might object to having their children care for animals, but having pets can actually teach people how to be responsible while loving a precious animal. That is one of the main concepts for The Yearling, one of the few family films to receive a “Best Picture” nomination at the Academy Awards.
A Toast!
This is a truly classic family film! Gregory Peck and Jane Wyman both deserved their Academy Award nominations in their leading roles. Besides their outstanding performances, Claude Jarman, Jr. displays his acting talents as the son of two amazing parents. Furthermore, the titular yearling is simply adorable. Additionally, this film really is a sight to behold! That is especially true since it features Oscar-winning production design and cinematography. Because of its visual style, this film is a wonderful reminder about how people must really care for the Earth (our only home).
Verdict
Sometimes people forget that human beings are animals, too. Thankfully, The Yearling can remind viewers to love their fellow creatures.
