The real world is undeniably competitive. Nevertheless, people can still express themselves even as change happens constantly. Not everyone wins or loses because it really is a matter of perspective. In fact, there are T-shirts that say that there really is no such thing as failure. People either learn, or win. Those ideas are compelling themes within the film They Shoot Horses, Don’t They? (1969).
A Toast!
First of all, this film features incredible acting. Gig Young definitely deserved his Oscar for his supporting role as “Rocky.” Furthermore, the film features the talents of Jane Fonda, Susannah York, Red Buttons, and Bruce Dern. The film is also a compelling adaptation of the novel by Horace McCoy. “They shoot horses, don’t they?” might be a rhetorical question, but it is the title of a major achievement from director Sydney Pollack.
Verdict
The world might be a “dog eat dog” place, but people can still show off their moves!
