Jules Verne remains one of the most celebrated authors of all time. His work formed the basis for some of the greatest family feature films ever made. Walt Disney might have produced a live-action version of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, but Verne’s other works are still reputable. One of the most iconic adaptations of Verne’s writing is the 1956 version of Around the World in Eighty Days.
A Toast!
Hailed as the “Best Picture” of the year of its initial release, this is a very compelling family film. Besides winning five Academy Awards, this film also features a Golden Globe-winning performance from Cantinflas. Not only is the acting incredible, but this film is a visual marvel because of how it brilliantly brings Jules Verne’s classic story to the screen. The cinematography and production design allows audiences to travel alongside the main characters.
Verdict
Around the World in Eighty Days might just be under three hours long, but that is because it is truly an epic adventure!
