Many would consider James Cameron’s Titanic (1997) the greatest film of all time. Unfortunately, that led to other films released in 1997 somewhat fading into obscurity. One of the best is As Good As It Gets.
A Toast!
This is a very unique comedy! The film features Oscar-winning performances from Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt. Additionally, Greg Kinnear earned nominations at both the Golden Globes and the Oscars for his supporting role as “Simon Bishop.” Besides the incredible acting, the film combines comedy and drama to create a story about friendship (with hints of romance). This film is definitely a major achievement from James L. Brooks.
Beer Two
Even though Helen Hunt won an Academy Award for this film, some would argue that she did not deserve it. Then again, the Lead Actress category that year was highly competitive. Fans of Titanic have also complained that Helen Hunt robbed Kate Winslet for her iconic performance as “Rose.”
Verdict
Sometimes in real life, people cannot live with people, but they can also not live without them, and that is as good as it gets (pun intended).
