Adding some vintage 80’s club trance and freestyle with some modern electronic sounds, Grapefruit Sound Lab (GSL) remixes Gina Volpe’s “Shine” with really interesting results. It does take you back to when club was king in New York City. GSL uses the haunting voice of Gina’s, whose “Shine” single is off her 2017 album Different Animal, and takes it into a wonderful direction.
There’s first class mixing of various dance genres, and it makes “Shine” sound like the quintessential club anthem. And that’s how it should be perceived. This outstanding collaboration needs to happen again. If you want to hear what New York City sounds like at night, grab a beer and take a listen to “Shine”.
