Henry VIII remains a notorious monarch. His selfish desire to have an heir led to his own demise. The dramatic life of this ruthless ruler is definitely tragic, but it also holds entertainment value. That is part of the reason why Henry VIII is a compelling Shakespearean drama.

This BBC production is very extravagant! John Stride essentially becomes the infamous king. The film looks spectacular because the director, Kevin Billington, strived for historically accurate production design. That effort paid off, though, because the visual look of this film is highly authentic.
Verdict
William Shakespeare actually co-wrote this play with John Fletcher. Nevertheless, this play endures because of the legacy of the Bard and his contributions to drama and the literary canon.
