Experimental jazz lives on in Jeff Novotny’s ambitious new project, the 15 minute single “Cygnus X”. It is a jazz tune sprinkled with plenty of world music such as ska, with little bits of EDM and rock.
While the single fuses all these sounds together, “Cygnus X” is jazz first and foremost, made for the most ardent jazz fan. But even the most ardent fans may need a few listens to really get it. Perhaps that’s “Cygnus X”’s purpose. Fifteen minutes is a lot to devote to a single, but it is worth your time, whether you’re an ardent jazz fan or not.
