A Victory Drink: for every victory gained by Lycett and crew against the big bad shady industries and for unsuspecting consumers who are eventually awarded with refunds, justice, compensation, et al due to Lycett and team’s efforts. It truly is backbreaking work indeed!

Been scammed out of your money by a fraudulent capitalist corporation or someone under the guise of a non-existent organisation? Does your local gym lack proper facilities for people with disabilities? Then fret not, because Joe Lycett’s Got Your Back!
So… I’m a giant Joe Lycett fangirl. I will scream it from the rooftops even! What haven’t his stand-ups taught me? From calling out gender norms to calling out the next door Karen for being a transphobic twat and even being open and transparent about his nail biting habit and his sexuality on stage, he has been an absolute delight to watch in his comedy routines. And this time around, in his new TV show, Joe Lycett’s Got Your Back (described as a ‘consumer justice show’), the comedian gets back at major corporations (both local and global), delves into their unscrupulous business practices that not a lot of folk are aware of, and hits out at scam artists like a total boss! Consider him as a slightly camp version of John Oliver… or a slightly camp version of Jon Stewart.
Will he be able to bring about a change through his brave exposés on such greedy giants? Or will his sting operations be all for nought? Find out all this and more in Joe Lycett’s Got Your Back.
A Toast
To the comedian and his crew for taking a stand and going where no man or woman has gone before… Into the world of gross malpractices and shady businesses, raising awareness on said malpractices and whistleblowing with his unique brand of consumer rights activism and a heavy helping of his satirical comedy on the side.
He navigates scams both online and off it, from car park fine scams to cyber scams (via email and DMs). His witty retorts to obvious cyber scam artists are comedy gold, as are the satirical sketches which are piss-takes at the original promises of fraudulent companies and his devious schemes to pull the wool over the eyes of equally devious scammers, insurance fraudsters, et al makes him a force to be reckoned with!
We stan a comedian who actually cares and is nothing short of a heroic warrior (but not the SJW type, obviously) who gets the job done and will go to extreme lengths by walking into the jaws of Uber Eats, NatWest, and sketchy restaurant/hotel chains which could make one violently ill to get the big scoop himself. His findings will make viewers’ jaws drop and of course, hopefully teach such mean and selfish corporations and scam artists a lesson in culpability.
The show follows a documentary-esque format, as well as takes a hidden camera approach which eventually boils down to a well-crafted sting operation (or two, at times), a peaceful protest, or even an impromptu rave featuring the wronged party (whatever works), all put together by Lycett the mastermind and his man Friday Mark Silcox who aren’t afraid to tread on thin ice & get their hands dirty by directly walking into the headquarters or organisations and even having a face to face with the CEOs to give them a taste of their own medicine.
The show also features some of Lycett’s celebrity friends and series 2 regular Rosie Jones (who acts as a field correspondent) who’ve also fallen prey to such experiences and appear as guests on the show to talk more about it and work alongside Joe and his operatives to dish out some justice!
Lycett is in fact so committed to the bit that he has even gone to the extent of renaming himself after a bossy major fashion label who shall remain nameless for the purpose of avoiding spoilers (hint: First name begins with ‘H’ & last name rhymes with ‘made Joe Lycett quite cross’!), so you know the man means business!
Verdict
Scammers beware, because Joe Lycett is on your back! Joe Lycett’s Got Your Back is a delightful and informative show and I highly recommend it.
