Some of the greatest films of all time are based on other mediums. That is also a reason why the Academy likes to honor adapted screenplays. Filmmakers oftentimes adapted classic literature into seminal screen classics. As the world began to modernize, so did cinema. That is a reason why Kiss of the Spider Woman is definitely a modern classic.
A Toast!
William Hurt definitely deserved his “Best Actor” Oscar for this film! The main cast deserved the recognition it received at the Golden Globes. Leonard Schrader brilliantly adapts the novel of the same name into a cinematic work of art. This is perhaps Hector Babenco’s masterpiece.
Verdict
This film definitely does justice to the novel by Manuel Puig!
